CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, August 27, 2026 — Thirty public school teachers from Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental are helping shape the future of Philippine education as key participants in a new national career evaluation program.
Region X was selected as one of 14 regions nationwide to pilot the System to Affirm Career Stages. The initiative aims to evaluate and recognize teachers based on demonstrated classroom competence rather than mere administrative tenure.
To prepare for the rollout, the participating educators completed a three-day national orientation from August 25 to 27 at the Chali Beach Resort and Conference Center, hosted by DepEd Region X in partnership with the Teacher Education Council (TEC).
The orientation aimed to guide participants through the core objectives, processes, requirements, and expected outcomes of the pilot implementation. It also provided a deeper understanding of the Teacher Education Council’s pivotal role in evaluating and affirming teachers’ career progression.
DepEd Region X Director Dr. Ruth L. Fuentes expressed full support for the initiative, joining Cagayan de Oro Schools Division Superintendent Roy Angelo E. Gazo and Misamis Oriental Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann M. Allera. The orientation sessions were facilitated by TEC leads Dr. Adrian Lawrence P. Carvajal and Dr. Noemi S. Baysa facilitated the orientation sessions.
More than a pathway to a career label, the pilot offers an opportunity to honestly examine and authentically affirm where teachers are in their professional practice—grounded on demonstrated practice and professional standards.
As the teacher-researchers proceed through the full pilot implementation, their experiences will contribute valuable field-level insights toward a deeper understanding of how teachers’ professional practice can be recognized, examined, and authentically affirmed.
