ORMOC CITY, 17 April 2026 – The delegation of Department of Education Region X (DepEd Region X) delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) held in Ormoc City from April 13–17, 2026, earning a total of 13 major wins in individual and two special awards for group events.
Region X ranked 4th in Individual Events (Elementary Level) and 5th in Individual Events (Secondary Level) nationwide. Although only the top three regions were formally awarded overall, the region’s performance remains a remarkable accomplishment among all participating delegations.
More significantly, Region X recorded the MOST number of GOLD medals in Individual Events at the Secondary Level—surpassing all 17 other regions. This distinction highlights the region’s strength, depth, and competitiveness in secondary-level campus journalism.
Region X’s gold medalists demonstrated excellence across various categories:
- News Writing (Elementary – English) – Johavier S. Ampaso (Salvador CS, Lanao del Norte)
- Feature Writing (Elementary – English) – Ezrah Margarethe T. Obina (Tubod CS, Lanao del Norte)
- Editorial Writing (Secondary – Filipino) – Jhovani Alexsis B. Dajao (Misamis Occidental NHS, Oroquieta City)
- Copyediting & Headline Writing (Secondary – English) – Ma. Kristina Abegail T. Arellano (Lala NHS, Lanao del Norte)
- Pag-uulo at Pagwawasto ng Sipì (Secondary – Filipino) – Wardry June G. Baloyos (Dr. Gerardo Sabal Memorial NHS, Misamis Oriental)
- Kartung Pang-editoryal (Secondary – Filipino) – Khe S. Ramirez (Macabalan NHS, Cagayan de Oro City)
These championship wins underscore Region X’s excellence in both English and Filipino disciplines, particularly at the secondary level where it led all regions in gold medal count.

Fourth Place:
- Pagsulat ng Balita (Elem-Fil) – Apple R. Montemayores (Tangub City CS, Tangub City)
Fifth Place:
- Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan (Elem-Fil) – Niña Jade B. Omega (Aloran CS, Misamis Occidental)
