DepEd X trains supervisors and teachers and orients school heads on ARAL Program to address learning gaps

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, August 21, 2025 – DepEd Regional Office X spearheaded a regional training and orientation on the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program at the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, on August 21–23.

A total of 96 teachers were trained on August 21-22 while 140 school heads participated in the orientation on August 23, both spearheaded by the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD), with the support of the ARAL Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG).

The training aimed to strengthen the teacher-tutors’ competencies in developing varied classroom assessments to determine the learners’ specific areas of difficulty and to design corresponding need-based remediation materials and activities while the orientation equipped the school heads’ competencies in efficiently running the entire ARAL Program.

Serving as trainers were Ms. Janeve I. Caballa, Master Teacher I, Division of El Salvador City, and Ms. Leabel L. Morales, Master Teacher I, Division of Gingoog City.

Moreover, Mr. Carlos B. Llamas III, chief, Quality Assurance Division (QAD) of the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), DepEd Central Office (CO), together with Dr. Jesusa L. Bulotano, NEAP trainer, and Ms. Christy J. Apurado, Technical Assistant II, NEAP CO, facilitated sessions to deepen the participants’ understanding of the ARAL Program.

Focused on Reading this year, the ARAL Program covers the most essential learning competencies in the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, specifically reading and mathematics for Grades 1–10 and science for Grades 3–10. These competencies are considered indispensable in equipping learners with the skills necessary for higher grade levels.

Regional Director Dr. Arturo B. Bayocot, CESO III, urged all divisional trainers and school heads to take the ARAL Program seriously and to implement it diligently, emphasizing its vital role in enhancing the learners’ critical and analytical thinking skills in both the early and upper grade levels.

Meanwhile, the ARAL Program training and orientation in Schools Division Offices (SDOs) and schools across the Region will happen on the first and second weeks of this month.

As part of the simultaneous national launching of the ARAL Program on September 12, a simple regional program launching will be conducted at San Juan Central School, Division of Gingoog City.

Republic Act No. 12028, otherwise known as the “Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program Act,” institutionalizes the ARAL Program as a nationwide intervention to support learners struggling in core subjects such as reading, mathematics, and science.

Signed into law by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on October 16, 2024, the measure reaffirms the government’s commitment to address learning loss and ensure access to quality education for all Filipino learners. |Public Affairs Unit (PAU)
